香港科技大學（科大）於五個城市舉辦的第七屆100萬元創業計劃，今年共吸引了900多支由學生、初創公司及專業人士等組成的隊伍參加，數目較去年增加多於一倍。比賽於去年首度擴展至北京、廣州、深圳和澳門。科大創業中心主任陳雙幸教授樂見這項賽事從最初培育科大創業家的平台，逐漸發展成推動創業文化的地區性比賽，為大中華地區的年輕創業家提供一個交流創意的平台。陳教授說：「我們所見，除了比賽的規模日增，參賽者所提交的方案質素亦不斷上升，市場牽引力益發廣闊深入。今年我們所得到業界的支持和贊助，亦屬歷屆之冠。」是次比賽獲得業界增加了贊助，今年特別增設兩個「廣發證券獎」，令亞軍及季軍隊伍的獎金，分別由去年的15萬港元和10萬港元，增至每隊港幣20萬元。至於「校長特設卓越表現獎」仍维持港幣30萬元。今年的「校長特設卓越表現獎」得主深圳市廣懋創新科技有限公司（Maxus Tech），同時亦贏得「商品展示獎」。Maxus Tech團隊發明了一款可以把任何光滑表面如牆壁、桌子或玻璃等，轉變為控制介面的設備，用戶只需運用簡單手勢，即可以遠距離控制諸如筆記本電腦或平板電腦的電子設備。該團隊將會聯同「廣發證券獎」兩個得獎隊伍，於8月18日參加在廣州南沙科大霍英東研究院舉行的總決賽。Maxus Tech的成員包羅萬有,包括來自科大、新南威爾士大學、中國科技大學和中山大學的畢業生。獲得廣發證券獎的兩個團隊分別為聊天機械人公司Clare.AI和光原創新科技有限公司（LIT）。 Clare.AI開發了一個聊天機械人系統，可幫助銀行和金融機構通過聊天機械人來處理客戶的簡單查詢。而LIT發明的一種尖端的五維活細胞影像處理技術，可以長時間拍攝最敏感的細胞樣本而不會對細胞造成任何損害。有關更多科大2017年100萬元創業計劃大賽詳情，請參閱：https://ec.hkust.edu.hk/one-million/hk/2017。​

If you’ve ever struggled with trying to pick up tofu with chopsticks, think how difficult it must be for the steely grip of a mechanical robot.  But thanks to some great teamwork and a lot of persistence, that’s exactly the challenge recently solved by five Mechanical Engineering students at HKUST, an achievement that has won them the 2017 President’s Cup for excellence in research and innovation. The team’s ‘Smart Soft-End Effector’ is a flexible robotic gripper that can safely handle the most delicate items, offering strong potential for commercial development.  The idea was initiated in 2015 by Alex Tse Yu, a final year engineering student, who has long been interested in soft robotics and created a prototype.

In celebration of our 25th Anniversary, a growing collection of videos was made to feature the remarkable community at HKUST – past and present. “I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to grow with HKUST. I hope all of you will have the opportunity to also grow with HKUST.” Associate Professor of Division of Social Science, Prof Naubahar Sharif said.

The use of the Scholarly Publications Database (SPD), which showcases the research output of the University, registered a 30% increase with 1.78 million page views recorded in 2016-17.

6 IPO students were selected from 300 applicants for the "Future Leaders in Finance" 2017 Summer Internship Program organized by the Y Society. The Kick-Off Ceremony was held successfully at the China Construction Bank at Central on 5th June 2017.

The second World Elite University Football Tournament was taken place from 23 June to 3 July 2017 at Tsinghua   University, Beijing. Twelve world-class Universities from Germany, Canada, the United States, Netherlands, the United     Kingdom, China, Hong Kong and Australia competed and mingled together during the Tournament.  

香港科技大學(科大)於6月9日向三位傑出人士頒授榮譽大學院士，他們分別為鄭紹遠教授、馮婉眉女士以及夏理遜先生。榮譽大學院士頒授典禮由大學校董會主席廖長城先生及校長陳繁昌教授主持。鄭紹遠教授是科大數學系的榮休教授。鄭教授於1996年加入科大出任數學系主任，2004年他成為理學院院長，並於一年後獲委任為講座教授，其後更升任署理副校長（學術）。他亦曾服務科大顧問委員會、校董會及教務委員會。鄭教授學術成就斐然，當中黎曼幾何和複幾何的研究，廣獲國際認許。鄭教授乃美國數學學會會士及世界華人數學家大會「陳省身獎」得主，並曾連續五年獲選為科大「十大傑出講師」之一。馮婉眉女士是前香港上海滙豐銀行有限公司香港區總裁。作為滙豐150年歷史上首位出掌該職位的女性，馮女士曾涉獵各個包括資本市場、區域交易等銀行業範疇，並於累積經驗的過程中扶搖直上。馮女士於30多年的銀行家生涯中，致力拓展本港金融業，並協助推展香港成為離岸人民幣業務樞紐。她曾服務多個金融和公營機構，當中包括科大校董會財務委員會副主席。馮女士於2013年獲頒授銅紫荊星章，以表揚其致力發展香港銀行業。夏理遜先生是專業會計師。他畢業於英國杜倫大學數學系，繼而投身會計行業，並加入畢馬威會計師事務所。由初期負責核數、審查評鑑、公司上市及其他諮詢工作，一步一步攀上事業高峰。夏理遜先生於1987年成為事務所合夥人，其後於2003至2009年間，擔任畢馬威中國及香港主席和行政總裁，並兼任畢馬威亞太區主席。夏理遜先生在退休後仍繼續熱心服務社會，以獨立非執行董事身份，為香港多家頂尖企業服務。夏理遜先生於2008年加入科大校董會擔任不同職務。他現為科大顧問委員會榮譽委員。<讚辭>有關香港科技大學

The Inter-Varsity Entrepreneurship Challenge 2017, held at Shanghai from 28 May to 4 June 2017, gathered students from Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) and ShanghaiTech University (SHTECH). Students teamed up with peers from different universities were challenged to create a new smart home product/ service to solve a particular social problem in China.
